Assembly Bill 101

AB 101 has passed both houses on a party-line vote.  Not a SINGLE Republican voted for the bill. The Nevada Firearms Coalition STRONGLY OPPOSES the passage of this bill. The Governor has stated that he will likely veto any bill that doesn't get a single GOP vote. We are asking that you contact the Governor's office and urge him to please VETO AB101.

Since 2001 the Nevada Wildlife Commission has imposed a $3 fee on hunters applying for big game permits. When this law was passed, the funds were to be used primarily for predator control to protect big game fawns and caves from excessive predation during the portion of their life cycle when they are the most defenseless.

This proposed bill takes that special assessment away from the original need and allows its use for other operational budget issues within the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

Here are some talking points for your consideration:

The $3 fee was intended to be used primarily for predator control.  If predator control is no longer necessary, then the fee/tax should be eliminated, and economic relief given to Nevada sportsmen who already support NDOW with a majority of its funding both through license and taxes on their firearms and ammunition.

If high fawn and calf loss is still critical, then the funds should be used for which they were initially appropriated.

We strongly oppose this diversion of special fees to purposes for which they were not established.
